conventional/progression presswork
Conventional / Progression Presswork:
Covers a broad scope by definition and application, within Fellows conventional presswork is a process whereby pressings are produced via a Mechanical press, the process is the cold forming of pressings from either flat sheet / blank or coil and in materials to include Aluminium, Copper, Carbon Steels and Stainless Steels.
Mechanical / Conventional Presswork:
Conventional Mechanical presswork being the cold forming or working of material that within Fellows mainly utilise die cushions controlled via air pressure, this can also be supported with the introduction of gas springs or draw beads to aid the forming of the initial pressing.
Mechanical presses are faster in stroke cycle than Hydraulic and subject to the component features and requirements, tooling can be designed to complete multiple actions in one tool typical operations would be Embossing, Forming, Clipping, Piercing, Plunging, Notching, Folding, Nut and Bolt insertion etc.
Due to the large bed sizes at Fellows tooling can often be ganged, subject to the size of the tooling up to eight tools have been run with a team of operators completing a component in one stroke of the press.
Coil Fed/Progression Presswork:
Coils up to 2.5Tonnes in weight are used to supply our large bed long stroke presses that offer all of the same type of operations as Conventional presswork but within one tool that has multiple operation stations. The significant difference is the far higher output rate subject to the size and design requirements of the component.
Each process route has its own merits and suitability for the product design, expectations and annual requirements.
At Fellows we have the scope and facilities to accommodate many requirements all under one roof.
The tooling is designed to control material shape and features and to achieve the desired component to customer standards and expectations in as few operations as possible.
Consideration as to what processing route is given with key influencing factors such as product design, feasibility and annual requirements normally being the process route drivers. All of which Fellows can advise on.
